Frequently Asked Questions

What does the free IMEI check show?

It validates the 15-digit IMEI and identifies available brand and model details. Eligible Apple devices may also return IMEI2, serial, warranty, Apple Care, estimated purchase date, carrier, country, and SIM-lock fields. Samsung devices may return warranty details when available.

Does the free check show blacklist or stolen status?

No. Blacklist or stolen status is not part of the free result. Do not treat the free result as proof that a phone is clean.

Does the free check show carrier lock, iCloud, or warranty status?

Eligible Apple devices can show carrier, SIM-lock, warranty, and related fields when the source provides them. Samsung devices may return warranty details when available; other non-Apple status fields require a matching report. iCloud and Activation Lock are separate checks and are not part of the free result.

How do I find the IMEI?

Dial *#06# on the phone or open the device settings and look under About Phone or General > About. The IMEI may also appear on the original box or SIM tray.

Is an IMEI identity check enough before buying a used phone?

It is a useful first step, but it is not a complete ownership or risk check. Compare the device details, inspect the phone and proof of purchase, and use the relevant blacklist or lock report when needed.

Basic and Advanced IMEI Questions Answered

Use these answers to understand what an IMEI can identify, what different status fields mean, and what an online report cannot guarantee.

What is an IMEI number?

IMEI means International Mobile Equipment Identity. It is normally a 15-digit identifier assigned to a cellular device. The first eight digits form the Type Allocation Code (TAC), which can help identify the device family or model allocation. The remaining digits include the device serial portion and a check digit.

How do I find an IMEI?

Dial *#06# on most phones. You can also check Settings > General > About on an iPhone or Settings > About Phone on Android. The IMEI may appear on the original box, purchase invoice, SIM tray, or device account. Compare the on-screen IMEI with the phone and box before buying a used device.

What is the difference between IMEI validation and an IMEI report?

Validation checks whether the number has the expected 15-digit structure and passes its check-digit calculation. Device identification may add available brand, model, TAC, and other device-status data. A report queries a selected source for specific fields such as blacklist, carrier lock, warranty, Find My, MDM, or repair history. A valid IMEI is not proof that the phone is clean.

What does an IMEI blacklist result mean?

IMEI Check Pro provides a free IMEI info check with validation and available brand and model identification without requiring an account. Eligible Apple devices may also return IMEI2, serial, warranty, Apple Care, estimated purchase date, carrier, country, and SIM-lock fields. Samsung devices may return warranty details when available. The free result does not confirm blacklist, iCloud, MDM, finance, or repair status; choose a matching report for those questions.

Are carrier lock, SIM lock, and blacklist status the same?

No. A carrier or SIM lock restricts which mobile network can activate the device. Blacklist status concerns whether the device identifier is blocked or reported. A phone can be unlocked but blacklisted, or carrier locked while otherwise clean. Check the field that matches your risk.

What are Find My, iCloud, and Activation Lock?

On supported Apple devices, Find My can enable Activation Lock. If the previous owner has not removed the device from their Apple account, setup may require that owner's credentials. A seller should erase the device and remove it from their account before payment. IMEI Check Pro reports only the Apple-related fields listed by the selected service.

What is MDM or enterprise management status?

Mobile Device Management can let a business, school, or other organization configure or restrict a device. An organization-managed phone may request enrollment or apply policies after setup. MDM status is separate from iCloud, carrier lock, and blacklist status and is available only in reports that explicitly include it.

Can an IMEI check prove ownership or guarantee a safe purchase?

No. An IMEI report is one part of due diligence. It cannot prove the seller owns the phone, guarantee that a future blacklist report will not occur, or replace a physical inspection. Verify the seller, proof of purchase, account removal, network activation, parts, cameras, battery, display, biometrics, charging, and return terms.

How should I check a dual-SIM or eSIM phone?

Dual-SIM devices commonly have IMEI 1 and IMEI 2, and eSIM-capable devices may also display an EID. Check every IMEI that may be used on a cellular network. A result for one IMEI should not automatically be assumed to apply to the other identifier.

Why can report fields differ by brand?

Manufacturers and data sources expose different records. Apple reports may include Find My, activation policy, MDM, warranty, replacement, or GSX-related fields. Other brands may offer warranty, model, regional, carrier, Knox, Mi Lock, or activation information. The service name and included-field list shown before payment define what is being ordered.

Does IMEI Check Pro unlock phones or remove locks?

No. IMEI Check Pro provides device identification and verification reports. It does not change an IMEI, remove iCloud or Activation Lock, bypass MDM, clear a blacklist, or perform carrier unlocking. Contact the original owner, manufacturer, carrier, or organization responsible for a legitimate removal request.

Why might a report show unavailable or incomplete data?

A source may not cover the brand, country, carrier, device age, or requested field. Records can also be delayed, unavailable, or returned in different formats. Review the report description before purchase and treat unavailable data as unknown rather than safe.

Is it safe to enter an IMEI online?

An IMEI is a device identifier, so share it only with a service you trust and for a clear verification purpose. Avoid posting a full IMEI publicly. Review the provider's privacy and data-protection terms, use a secure connection, and do not share passwords, one-time codes, or Apple or carrier account credentials.
