How to Find a MacBook Serial Number

Quick answer: open Apple menu → About This Mac (or System Settings → General → About) and copy the Serial Number. Then paste it into the MacBook serial checker to verify the model and unlock history when needed.

Use the serial shown inside macOS as the starting point. A box label or bottom-case number is useful for comparison, but either can belong to a different device if parts or packaging were mixed.

Method 1 — About This Mac / System Settings

  1. Click the Apple logo in the menu bar.
  2. Choose About This Mac, or open System Settings → General → About.
  3. Copy the Serial Number exactly.

Method 2 — Bottom Case

Flip the MacBook over. The serial is printed on the underside near regulatory text. Compare it to software — they must match.
