The five identifiers buyers commonly confuse
- Marketing name: MacBook Air or MacBook Pro plus screen size and generation.

Method 1: the Mac starts normally
- Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu and photograph the complete window.
- Open System Information and record Model Identifier, Serial Number, chip and memory.
- Open Storage or Disk Utility to confirm capacity rather than inferring it from the model name.
- Compare the result with the listing and the serial printed on the underside.
Method 2: the Mac is unavailable or will not start
Use the underside serial or the original packaging, then enter the serial into Apple’s Check Coverage service or a model lookup. Apple’s MacBook model-identification page lists model identifiers and part-number families for comparison.
